As a guy, I've always notice that when it comes to music tastes, I listen to more female artists than male artists in general. I have a broad music library of likes and love every one of them regardless of their gender or sex, but I've always been fond of female artists for some reason.

There's not a really simple reason why other than, they are just better artists? I mean, a female artist connects more to me than male ones for the fact that the female voice is just beautiful and pure. A mezzo-soprano melody of beauty.

I sometimes don't like to point it out to other men since part of me thinks that they'll perceive me as less of a man to begin with. Another part simply just doesn't give a fuck at all what others think. Maybe I should listen to the latter instead.

Anyway, Edith Piaf is awesome :D.

I don't feel like going to school. But my mom gets angry when i dont go and i dont know what to tell her... im already the burden of the family, i already have problems yet i keep doing this to myself, why am i making this difficult for myself? Why cant i just go to school?! WHY CANT I FUCKING DO THAT?! Theres parts of me that feels lazy... Parts where, theres so many things happening in school i just dont wanna go, another part where im embarrassed bc i havent gone in school for weeks and i show up its just... but maybe i really am just lazy, a fucking lazy pig. I know if i dont go to school, it has consequences, everyone is tired of me acting like this. I am lucky, i really am, my mom isnt too strict to me, she doesnt expect high grades, and all she wants is for me to go to school... but for some fucking reason even i cant do that, like why the fuck am i crying im so fucking dramatic like wtf... but i made this decision... im the one doing this to myself and when my mom asks why... my mouth doesnt wanna open and my thoughts are just rushing to me but even if i say what i typed in this blog, itll be stupid, what i just typed is stupid. I have to stop doing this to myself but why cant i... even though i know i can i think....

CAR RANT POST:

I find that the cars that I see on the road today feel like such a blatant product of capitalism and individualism in a way that I do not have the education required to effectively describe.

1) Why are they all so damn big?

I'm aware that a large part of it is marketing. Pickups are huge in North America, and to my knowledge a good part of it is that in a lot of areas cars/trucks that hit a certain weight/size limit don't need to follow certain environmental regulations. This is really cheap for car companies, hence a giant, multiyear marketing campaign convincing North Americans that everyone and their kid needs a truck/SUV. NO ONE WHO LIVES IN A SUBDIVISION/WORKS IN A OFFICE NEEDS A PICKUP. Families survive perfectly fine without giant SUVs. You can find storage solutions that don't involve BLOCKING MY VISION OF THE ENTIRE LIFT SIDE OF THE INTERSECTION AND THE LANE IN FRONT OF ME. I get the need for crumple zones, but good Lord.

2) WHY CAN'T I SEE OUT OF THEM???

Can't see the road, because A), I prefer a smaller, more fuel effective car, while the MAJORITY OF COMMUTERS ARE IN TRUCKS AND SUVs. I CAN SEE THESE PEOPLE IN THEIR CARS, IT'S ALWAYS ONE DRIVER, NO PASSENGERS, AND NOTHING STORED IN THEIR PRECIOUS CARGO SPACE. B), they're often either huge with little to no visibility in the back, or tiny and so cramped that I just can't see in general. I feel like they're designed assuming I'm going to only check my back up camera before reversing, which in general is bad practice, but becomes particularly bad in areas with heavy mud/slush issues. Recently, I've been driving some old model of honda civic, which had the wind shield PERFECTLY slanted so that the frame blocks my entire vision of the left side of the road when I turn :/ I can barely see out the back without a rearview camera because...?? They wanted less window? Idk?

3) If I ever meet a car designer who thinks touch screens are a good idea, I'm going to prison.

Thankfully, All the cars I've driven either didn't have touch screens, or only used touch screens to change settings that usually don't need to be fiddled with while driving, like the time, and the playlist folder you're listening to. I wish, for the love of all things holy and unholy, that I could vaporize all cars that have their main UI exclusively touch screen. I should be able to feel how much I want to increase the air flow in my car, not look down and get into an accident. In the same vein, I think we should stigmatize the use of taking calls via bluetooth, and make it an emergencies only type of situation. I don't have the mental capacity to place WHY it feels so much more distracting than a regular conversation between two people in a car, but there's something wrong with it.

4) They ugly, bruh. I've never really been a huge fan of car design, but, like..? They've got to have some weird utility function set up to optimize cheap, lazy design and whatever makes the average consumer not offended enough to not buy the car. They look like computer mice from amazon basics.

In short, they all seem to be designed as big and "safe" as possible, creating some weird individualistic arms race of gas guzzling titans that'll flatten any reasonably sized commuter car. Visibility is sacrificed in the name of wrapping people up in oversized aluminium bubblewrap, and is replaced with automated sensors and cameras, which we wouldn't need as much if cars had better visibility and drivers had extra regulations to ensure that the people on the road can ACTUALLY DRIVE (This ties in to a rant about car dependence and public transportation in North America that I also have on the burner, but I'm not getting into that right now)

MY IDEAL CAR (assuming such a thing exists) would be a little 70s-80 volvo hatchback type car, converted to be electric. I some kind of car very similar to one of these (though not quite the same?) today, and it baffled me because the top/ sides were 99% window. No shitty plastic blocking your view, the rear was almost completely flat, so where your rear view window was is ALSO WHERE YOUR BUMPER IS!! Reversing would be so much easier if I wasn't guestimating the gps coordinates of my car's ass cheeks all the time. The hood was flat, so I would be able to actually see where the bumper was, and not the edge of some weird horizon curving off into no where. (I've had this issue in multiple cars. I would like to see the edge of the bumper, and not just the top of some random curve in the hood of the car's shape) The ONLY downsides to fitting an old car like this would be the AWFUL mileage (lack of aero dynamics, heavy car, etc.) and maybe the mid tier safety set-up. In an ideal world I'd set up a solar farm to charge my car, and only use it for commuting so I wouldn't feel as bad about the km/l.

Ok, so I've spent years being fairly confident that I have ADHD, and it's taken me until my first semester of college to get formally diagnosed and medicated. It all started during the pandemic, my mom had to become a lot more present in teaching my sister now that we were all stuck at home. My sister's teachers had said many times that she likely had ADHD, but my mom didn't believe it until she had to be the teacher for a year. My mom quickly had my sister diagnosed and on meds once the problem became this relevant for her. Upon finding out about all of this, I did a lot of research on ADHD so that I could understand what was going on better... Only to realize that the problem was likely way closer than I previously thought. And here's the thing, I totally understand that it's bad to form medical opinions based on what google says, BUT THE CALL WAS COMING FROM INSIDE THE HOUSE! I found out that ADHD was genetic, and that there was such thing as inattentive ADHD which often when unnoticed, especially in girls, and everything about it made my life make so much more sense. I eventually told my mom that I wanted to be tested too, and she said, "You don't have it, you do too well in school to have ADHD', and that was the end of the conversation. Later on in highschool, I asked again, same answer, to the point where every summer I would start a conversation along the lines of, "Hey, so I'm going to be taking much harder classes next school year, and I barely got by this year, and I think being put on meds would help a lot." and then I would get immediately shut down. Now, skip forward to this summer, I am right about to go into college, and this time the conversation about getting medicated is a lot more important for me. I ask, waiting to get told no again, but instead my mom says, "You're an adult now, so you can do what you want, but I'm telling you, they're not going to diagnose you with ADHD, and if they do it's not going to be bad enough for them to put you on meds". I book a consultation a week later. I finally have my appointment and I'm talking to a real psychiatrist about this, I tell her about my life, how I've had terrible brain fog for years, had over 100 missing assignments (and somehow all A's and B's) my junior year, how whenever my teachers are talking everything just goes in one ear and out the other. I say all of this fully expecting her to say, nah you're fine, like I've been hearing for YEARS, instead, he immediately starts talking me through what medication she thinks would work best for me, and that all she needs to do before putting me on it is to run a few tests on me. After all of that, I finally pick up my ADHD meds for the first time. AND HOLY SHIT GUYS, I AM SIGNIFICANTLY LESS DYSFUNCTIONAL! I didn't even realize how dysfunctional my life was before meds, I just knew I was a bit of a wreck at moments, and now looking back its like, how the hell did I get anything done before this. My horrendous brain fog? GONE! I still have a hard time staying on track some times, but not nearly as bad as before! About an hour after my first dose, I noticed that it genuinely felt like my brain was thinking differently!! It went from like 30 things all going on at one to combine into a single, fairly incoherent thought to just one straight line of coherent thinking, and its amazing! I was worried that I wasn't going to be as funny or creative or that it would change my personality, but its like everything is still there, it's just reformatted so much nicer! Like putting a messy rough draft essay into APA format. My brain is just so much easier to access now, and it kills me that it could've been like this for years.

The one thing about getting diagnosed way after I realized that I had ADHD is that I spent so much time worrying that I was faking it, or that the people around me thought I was. Especially right now, with mental health terms being turned into buzzwords online under the mask of bringing visibility to certain conditions, genuinely thinking you have a mental health condition is rough. All of the sudden, in an attempt to destigmatize mental health, people have been doing the opposite, and hearing people say, "all these kids just think they have ADHD because its trendy" genuinely made me question myself. And having adhd symptoms as someone who was self diagnosed all the time made me worried that I was just being performative and didn't know it, and I was constantly worried that by claiming something I did was related to my adhd would hurt people who had been formally diagnosed or make them get taken less seriously. Luckily, my adhd symptoms were very real, and on the rare occasion that I would mention that I was worried that my adhd wasn't real and I was just using it as some internet buzzword while undermining people who actually had adhd, my friends who had to deal with my unmedicated adhd on a daily basic confirmed that it was very much real, and that there was no way in hell I was secretly faking all of that. Getting formally diagnosed didn't just help me with my symptoms, but also being able to acknowledge that I have adhd without feeling like I could be lying and taking away credibility from people who actually do have it. After being diagnosed though, I have started getting annoyed with the people online who like to claim neurodivergence to be quirky or call anyone who is slightly different neurodivergent. Not the people who just say, "Hey, I think I might have this mental disorder, I'm not sure though but I'm fairly confident", especially if they don't have the resources to get diagnosed, because knowing that something is potentially there can help you work around it if it is. But the people who claim adhd without the slightest bit of research other than watching a single video with an overgeneralized, and stereotypical depiction of adhd and won't shut up about it annoy me, because their behaviour made me genuinely doubt my own struggles and often make it harder for people who actually have adhd to get diagnosed. Along with that, they are often spreading around false information, and generalizations that just make people with real adhd look bad. But, yeah, I am so happy that I'm finally on meds now, thank you for listening to me rant!!

I had this realization that I don't really know who is really me, like, I think I understand what "non-biniry" means. Sometimes I think of me myself and I really hate that person, but other times I love the person that i am, but there are two of them and I fear I'm loosing myself. Am I really me or there's other me? I don't know anymore. I love life but I think one of me want to really kill the other me, but then we love each other? What the fuck?

I'm scared of showing any emotion other then "Slavic stare". If I do anything cool and fun I have that thoughts in other perspective like I'm looking at my self and saying "you look stupid" "ugh, he's cringe" "can you stop?"and everything is falling apart. My friends always ask if I'm good and I don't know so I say that I am but am i really okay?

I really want to be that cute, silly guy, but at the same time I want to be tough and cool. My boyfriend is trying to help me but I'm scared and shy even with him and... ughhh, I just need to write it somewhere, maybe it would help.

Having to force myself to do the things i love and enjoy is really daunting. I have to have my portfolio for fashion school finished in like, maybe less than two weeks, and maybe earlier if i really want to have a chance at being considered. And i don't have the money to buy fabric for my last project which is a MANDATORY part of my portfolio submission. i already see things about people already applying and sending in their applications, and its kind of a first come first serve kinda thing so i feel really behind and i feel like if i even manage to get it in early, it wouldn't be early enough. I feel like just giving up and accepting that I'm not gonna make it for early admission, but that's probably because it feels easier than putting in the effort to crunch as hard as i can and get it in. It makes me feel like a fraud, that maybe i don't actually want this for my life. that maybe I'm not cut out for this. But i just have to *try*. And trying is so hard.

Damn it and i still have to write my essay too. Procrastination is my greatest enemy. i could've had this done months ago because i started working on my portfolio at the BEGINNING of this year. It took me like 6 months to complete one damn part. And no it wasn't hard, i just couldn't make myself do it fast enough. And even though i have that part finished, I STILL DONT LIKE IT!! And I'm heavily considering re-doing it but i literally only have a few weeks left and i know myself and i know I'm not gonna get it done in time and its just UGH!

i have this belief that i have to be perfect enough to even be considered, even though people with SIGNIFICANTLY less skill have gotten in but i just cant for the life of me be okay with submitting something that isn't perfect. I want them to know that i am great and awesome right off the bat and i know that's stupid but i cant help it! This is so haarrddd!!!! I need to get off my high horse and be realistic that obviously they know that no one is gonna be perfect, that's the whole reason they're applying, to get *better*. Obviously there will be some people that are already better at their craft. There's ALWAYS someone better. I know that, I'm aware. But i think I'm just trying to be the person that's better. And maybe that's selfish of me. But who doesn't??? I wish i wasn't such a perfectionist who is also cursed with chronic procrastination and executive dysfunction. I feel so severely unmedicated and i swear if there's a pill out there that will help me function like a normal human being, ill pop pills EVERY DAY. Every day. if it meant it could make it easier for my brain to get me off my ass.

This whole thing literally determines the trajectory of my life and i cannot afford to let it flop. This is just for early admission because i wanted to start as soon as i possibly could, so if i got accepted, i would be able to start in the upcoming spring. But if i decided to just *apply* in the spring, then id start in the fall. Literally an entire year later. Setting myself back an entire year is not what i need right now, i don't think i could physically handle that. And i think, even if i gave myself an entire other year to finish this portfolio, id still manage to be late!!! because that's what already happened this year!! I had an entire year to make my portfolio, which doesn't even have to be that big because the requirements are just 4 separate parts, and all they want are THOSE 4 parts. nothing more, nothing less. and i could've had this done in a few months if i was a normal functioning human being, but obviously, that was far from the case.

Every day i wake up and spend the whole day sick to my stomach anxious and stressed because of every second i spend not doing anything. I struggle to go to sleep because i feel like sleeping is just wasting more time. I contemplate backup life paths because I'm just so prepared to give up on everything and accept that this is all just some unrealistic pipe dream that isn't for me. I hate myself for thinking that but then i hate myself even more for not doing anything about it. I live a life of contradiction, and no one can save me but myself.

If you are someone struggling with something like this too, do yourself a favor and GET. THE FUCK. UP.

I wasn't familiar with Amy's songs all that well. She passed away by the time I was around 4 years old at the time. But a striking taught I had was her performances. A certain passion she had whenever on stage, presenting herself to the world in a bold, "couldn't care less" attitude. That is what captivated me towards who she was. A rising star in pop that reasonated with many across the world.

Beyond her fame however, she had issues, just like many of us humans. Those issues started showing up more and more in her career, with the opportunities of help becoming less and less for her. Despite her need to change for the better, the people surrounding Amy influenced an attitude that became dangerous.

Seeing that video of her last performance in Belgrade stuck to me heavily. Amy's desperate need to leave the stage due to her uncontrollable state whilst the crowd heckled became an indicator to me that people geniunely have no shame. Amy deserved better than that. She shouldn't have been performing that day. Her mangers should've never given her alcohol; should've taken her to the hospital instead. I mean, why did it all have to end this way?

I may have not been a super-fan of Amy, but she deserved better. Fly high, girl

this is a blog meant for each and every one of us to vent about situations related to the title. i'll give a starter, because oh my FUCKING GOD

my grandma fits both the toxic and narcissistic spaces i mentioned. quick context: she sleeps and spends her whole day at the living room. it's her own choice, and she makes sure to act as if the rest of the house were intruders of that space for wanting to watch TV, doing other stuff around that might make noise even if slight, and etc., and it's been like this for years.

today, she came back from her trip w my grandpa and the first thing she said (that wasn't about the trip) after settling down was asking my mom if she could do something that was specifically handiwork.
my mom hurt, besides other things, both of her hands at a fall yesterday. she told both of my grandparents (a.k.a. her parents) about it some minutes after it happened.

then, grandma was changing channels when suddenly she goes shocked because the remote had a crack in it. guess what? that crack has been there for YEAAARSS, but she kept her accusing tone towards both of us as if it were our fault and not something that had happened so long ago that the last time i changed the tape used to hold the remote together was in JANUARY. IN FRONT OF HER. so, mom and me kept trying to tell her it had been like that since forever and that she was the only one who hadn't seen it and that it was normal since we've had that device for a good while, but she just kept with her "argument" that it must have happened during this weekend, since "it wasn't there before".

it's natural for her to not pay attention and then act as if she knew everything because she's the queen or some fuckery, and i would usually brush it off at once, but i decided to start actually countering down her words and showing no one at the house would fall for her gaslighting and changing of facts. i mean, since she's acting like the house's teenager and being the rational adult in these situations wasn't working out for me, i should go mouthing off true facts and then blame hormones as well, shouldn't i?

i think she wanted to fight off or something, maybe just ran out of arguments and wanted ignition to yell, because i said "you're not the only one who uses the remote" while leaving and she spat out that i had a hard mouth, to which my mom defended me and my grandma just harshly went "why did you say that while leaving? say it on my face!" to which i replied, and she just kept complaining something that i barely paid attention as to not stress out my poor mama even more

this was my most recent anecdote. anyone else?

Zine making is a portal to playful freedom!! its an accessible art form where anyone, creative or not, can find their voice without the pressure of perfection. In a world consumed by technology, zines are a radical act of community, opening doors for others to share their voices and shout about what matters most to them!!!

══════════════════════════History ══════════════════════════
The true origins of zines began in the sci-fi community in the 30s when fans would make fan zines regarding theories they had about upcoming plot points. By the 70s and 80s, The widespread availability of cheap photocopiers transformed zines into a staple of punk DIY. They became tools of protest and passion. Feminist voices, civil rights organizers, and underground artists were all using paper to make their voices heard.

Zines thrived as technology became more accessible. They were cheap to make and accessible to anyone with a photocopier. Punk culture in the late 1970's and 80s exploded the format and adopted a messier aesthetic, using cut and paste layouts, typewriters, and raw essays. In the 90s, the Riot Grrl feminist movement used zines as a radical platform for young women to discuss sexism, identity, and DIY culture.

════════════════════Why Make a Zine? ════════════════════
Today, zines have resurged as tactile, analog objects that resist algorithms, mainstream media, and celebrate personal storytelling. People are returning to paper because it feels more authentic, uncensored, and human.

I believe that its super important to share our ordinary experiences or our personal opinions on things mainstream media doesn't want to talk about. You can definitely make your zines political, you SHOULD! They are primarily focused on social change after all. But even though being political is a big part, its not necessary at all! talking about something as simple as going out on a date, or talking about your favorite fashion, or movie/book reviews, or showcasing art, or just talking about different experiences you've had, I cant emphasize enough how versatile zines are. Anything you could possibly think of. You can make them as cute or as cool as you want! And no matter what you choose to write about, or how you choose to make it, someone out there is going to relate or be interested in it, even if you'll never know it. The future is physical, as they say.

With all that said, GO MAKE A ZINE!! Give them to your friends and have them give them to their friends and their friends and so on. Make them for yourself, or for other people. Write about yourself, or get political, or write poetry, or maybe something funny and light hearted, make a comic, do ANYTHING! Because really, who's stopping you?

Top 10 Reasons I LOVE ZINES
1. They are PERSONAL
2. They are PORTABLE
3. They're SUPER cheap
4. Easy peasy lemon squeezy
5. Learn about important topics in an uncensored way
6. Therapeutic to write and read
7. Great for making new friends
8. Helps develop & practice creative skills
9. you can hide them anywhere for people to find
10. They can be about LITERALLY ANYTHING

I was going on yt just scrolling what to watch and i see this yt channel that i used to watch as a kid, i go and click the channel to reminisce, nostalgia and all and i see the little girl back then now my age! (Okay 1 yr younger then me) So i start watching her vlogs bc shes been doing more vlogs lately and... all i can think about for some reason is... how nice her room is, how pretty she was, how skinny she was, they drive to school everyday, how she was more rich and then i remember, she's 1 yr younger than me... and that made me jealous, kinda hated her. But i didnt wanna think like that, i dont wanna be full jealousy & hate, no, i wasnt like that... i think... Seeing someone be better than me, made me insecure. So i started thinking, she deserves this, blah blah blah! Etc etc.(My mind blanked. i think ill end it here, i wanted to say more, i really did! But i forgot... im sorry.. also first blog!
Recently, I stumbled across an instagram reel that ignited deep memories of stories my grandma had told me. When I was young, my grandmother would tell me stories as we sat by the bonfire and waited for the food to get ready. One story I keep remembering after watching that reel, is one that logically, shouldn’t even have happened.

It was early 2017, Cyclone Dineo was causing mayhem and disruptions. Schools had to close, and we were all sent home early. My grandma was forced to cook inside the house ( she preferred cooking on the fire though) as we waited for the storm to pass. Back at school, rumours had been floating around, and old stories that were told to other kids resurfaced.

I decided to ask my grandma, while we sat together about one that was gnawing at the back of my mind.

“Mmamma, today at school, one of my friends told me a story. She says it happened. But some kids don’t believe her”

My grandma looked up from the pot and waited for me to continue with the story

[Bare with me now, this part is about to sound coo coo bananas]

“Apperently, the mine where her uncle worked once shut down. Because while they were excavating, they unknowingly dug into an underground water source and thought they had cut through some thick tree roots. When they went to investigate, she said they saw that it wasn’t a thick tree root… but a person… with a fish tale?”

My grandma nodded.

“Ah yes, I remember when that happened. These pesky mines near the mountains are just trouble. One time a group of miners took its baby. There was a big storm, just like this one around our village. It destroyed every house, and a few people died. It took some babies too. It almost took your brother, but when it lifted the roof of this house, your mother saw it, and so it retreated and the roof slammed down onto the house. Our house was the only one that survived"

At that time, I just thought it was a cool little story. My kid brain wanted to know what happened to the one they had found while excavating.

“So what happened to it? The one they found?”

“Some white men in black clothes came and took it away. And that was the end of it. They relocated it somewhere.”

Where I’m from, the existence of sirens was a fact. I grew up believing they existed. Hearing stories about them. A lot from my grandma. Stories of them taking kids, the storms they caused, stories of people who came back after being taken. How they were never the same, and that they belonged to the water now. Children of the water are what they called them. You are either taken to be one, or someone in your family was one, through way down the lineage. If you are a child of the water, they will either come for you, or your descendants.

The reason I might start believing these things is because these are literally stories from my grandma, she has seen one with her own eyes, sitting on the rocks at the river bank back when she was a teenager. She had gone to the river to do the laundry. And back then, she didn’t have access to the internet. Or could’ve possibly known about them because she had no internet. Nor was she able to watch anything with sirens in it, let alone watch TV.

And another thing, is because I was told to stay away from the beaches, or rivers, otherwise I would be at risk of being taken. Because apparently I am a child of the waters. (i would like to take this momement here to state, here and now THAT I REBUKE THAT LMAO. I THE LORDS CHILD 😭. but i couldnt say that then because it wouldve been MAD disrespectful.)

Anyway, I’d like to know if anyone else has stories like this to share. If anyone found this interesting, i could go into detail of how i found out i was "a child of the waters", more “folklore”, and perhaps one thing that only a few of my friends know (online friends… im not so brazen as to tell people from where im from who i really am… unless if they know my family but i yeah💀)

[this may or may not be for entertainment purposes only. Mr FBi agent, as u already know, ive got a lot of screws loose]

I do not keep up with fandom or fanfiction discourse. That said, I have heard about Wattpad users migrating to AO3 after some policy change. It got me thinking about the state of fanfiction websites in general. When most people rely on major sites, what's stopping these people from eventually being shoved onto the same platform?

I was not on the Internet when the indie web was first booming. I did not know about Geocities and thought all .net domains were sketchy. I did not witness the plethora of niche, fandom-focused fanfiction sites.

Before AO3 and Wattpad became the standard fanfiction platforms, there were tiny websites scattered across the Web. They focused on one subject, like a specific franchise or trope. The people who posted there formed communities based on the common interest.

Obviously, this format had flaws. It is much easier to argue about headcanons, interpretations, and writing skills when you are lumped with the same few people. It becomes easy to form an exclusive clique. When these sites are run by random, sometimes amateur web developers, cybersecurity is an issue.

Even so, I want these sites to become popular again. I know sone still exist, but when do you hear about them? Now that Wattpad users are jumping ship, I predict AO3 will only become more prevalent.

Maybe it is wrong to call the site a monopoly. After all, it relies solely on donations to survive. I am sure the AO3 admin team support other fanfic sites existing. I hope they do. Either way, what other sites are there? Where else can people go?

As I mentioned, cybersecurity is a problem for these small sites. I am no specialist, but I know that you need a lot of skills to ensure user data cannot be leaked. If you have the password, structured SQL databases are eaay to read!

Then, if we cannot fully revive these sites, why not make individual ones for ourselves? Neocities and Nekoweb are free. You do not have to worry about databases or storing any client information. There is nothing stopping us from making site specifically to post our fanworks.

With CSS, we have complete control over the appearances of our sites. We can add whatever pages we want. Imagine someone's fanfiction site having a section for quizzes, trivia, and puzzle games! There is so much freedom on the indie web.

This is just me glazing the indie web scene, as usual. Seriously, though, I want this idea to become reality. We could even have webrings to connect our fanfiction sites! We can add links to fellow sites we like! Our sites do not have to exist in vacuums, even if our creations are not on the same site. Community can still thrive.

'Til next time,
Dolly ★

This is kind of a rant; it just feels like we are in almost a dark age for creativity, and to me, cringe culture and nepotism have a lot to do with it.

Lately things have just been feeling bland; the streets have no color anymore; it almost seems dull, and I truly believe some of that is due to the idea of 'Cringe Culture.'

'Cringe Culture' isn't a new thing; it's always been there, just under a different name for a different era. Cringe Culture at its core is a way to isolate people that are different. And recently that idea of isolating anyone who could be different has led to the almost aesthetic sludge we are living through.

Those who have different ideas are now more than ever being pushed out of these industries where they are needed most. What got me thinking on this idea was the September issue of Vogue. The September issue is meant to be what's new for fashion, but it wasn't anything in the magazine that was interesting to me. It was the same things we have been seeing, the same things being pushed out by the same people with nothing behind the style. Nothing stands out, as standing out is looked down upon nowadays as we are stuck in a loop of micro trends, set by those who have bullied others who were different out using cringe culture as a weapon.

At its core nowadays people are scared to be themselves; it has been baked into our culture now. Looking at the past, those who were outside the norm still had places to go; music genres were built from those who had nowhere else. But now those spaces have gone, and the ones that remain are so far removed from what they once were.

Now everything is seen as cringe: dancing is cringe, and living life is cringe. But once something is accepted by the masses, it was never cringe, and once more anyone seen as different is forced out by those moving in.

The dull life we see at its core is due to how individualism is punished; this has always been going on, but now people seem more comfortable isolating others using the label of cringe to cover it.

To be cringe is to be free.

I was the kind of kid who did not have many friends, and did not know what romance or crushes were. My parents never spoke to me about it, and I avoided what was expected of me entirely. "You're just not that kind of person I'd talk to about it", as a kid when I was 9 said, after I asked why I was the only friend to not be in the know about the crushes going on between students in our class.

When I was around 10, I got really into online fandom, which of course centered shipping. I had my OTPs, partook in shipwars and loved consuming artwork and fics of my favourite characters, especially if they were queer, like me. Never did I stop to truly imagine myself in those positions or question what they really meant. That came later.

I first stumbled on the concept of asexuality online a few years later. I remember thinking "wow I wish that could be me, but I know it's not". I still don't know how to feel about that.

Back then, I read lots of romance, specifically romance manhwa. I got familiar with tropes, and learned how people commented on and spoke about these stories. I mirrored it. I had opinions on love triangles, would reread kiss scenes, and my perspective on romance was entirely based on fiction and fandom.

When I entered highschool I began to realize I had no idea what a real "crush" was. I suddenly became obsessed with asking everyone I knew how they knew if they liked someone, under the guise of "I want to confirm if I am gay". No answer ever made sense to me, and that only made me ask even more, as I couldn't accept it could be something I couldn't understand.

For some reason, it was scarier being aromantic, way scarier than it was just being gay. It suddenly meant my life might not on the same track as everyone else's, that there was something that would split me off even more from my peers. I had gay/lesbian/bi friends, I grew up in and around the queer community online, and I knew it was okay to be gay. But in and out of incel jokes, dating fails, and promposals, I felt deeply ashamed and a fear of missing out. Sure, I can do "romantic" things with a friend, sure I can still date. I could imagine myself being with someone romantically in the perfect situation. But in practice I found that the other person never felt the exact same way about me or could understand how I felt (although that was also due to a lot of other things situationally).

I almost never felt as wrong about being nonbinary or gay as I did about feeling what feels like no romantic attraction at all. Not to say I never felt internal transphobia or homophobia, of course I do/did, but the deep fear and shame I felt over the possibility of never dating/marrying was something that hours of Reddit posts could not heal in the same way.

I felt jealous that there was nothing that could seemingly make me "feel more valid" or "feel right" in the same way for my gayness and nonbinaryness. Gender affirmation, being referred to properly, expressing myself how I wanted to, seeing myself in the mirror as I wanted for the first time, having others see me for me. That was something tangible. Dating (when I did), bonding over the (limited) attraction I do experience, even if it's just being gay for fictional characters, talking about gay awakenings. That was also SOMETHING. But I could not figure out a way to express a lack of something. It is so much harder to prove a total lack of something.

Amatonormativity and allonormativity is truly everywhere and harms everyone. I can't stop seeing it once I started to. It is a product of the patriarchy, product of colonialism and ideals that are not realistic for everyone to follow.

Past the rollercoaster that was highschool, in the past few years I've lately started to try to see love in everything. I've started to grow to appreciate romance rather than feel bitter. I don't understand it. I don't think I ever will. I don't think I will ever "date" traditionally. Partners can be anyone, confidants can be anyone. I love being close to one specific person, emotionally, physically, just not sexually, and in a way I would not feel comfortable calling romance. But TBH I've sort of come to terms with the fact it's all a social construct anyways. Something only has to be romantic if you say it is, and all it takes is agreement for something not to be romantic.

It's always jarring to see het communities talk about dating culture and relationships. Questioning relationship standards and norms is so familiar in queer communities, but some of these straight people have never done that in their lives. It's so foreign to me.

I feel crazy sometimes for processing things differently from everyone around me. Maybe it's my suspected neurodivergence (probably), but it's easy to feel nonsensical when everyone else has already learned and internalized these ideals. I feel behind in everything.

I don't really subscribe to labels, solid ones at least (besides NB/queer). On any given day, I might just say I'm gay, maybe aromantic or aspec (aro spectrum). I've never really used the term aroace that often out loud, although maybe it fits me in practice? It's complicated and hardly an isolated issue (for instance my gender/body dysphoria greatly influences my confusion over my sexuality).

I have great feelings of love all the time, but it almost feels like I'm constantly being told they don't matter, because none are romantic.

I can barely immerse myself in romance sometimes. At times I'm so repulsed I can barely listen to most music. Shipping is not as appealing to me anymore, because I sometimes don't understand why it has to be romantic. You can't force romantic attraction right, so why am I specifically romantically shipping these characters anyways instead of just appreciating their pairing in the broad sense? Not that there's anything wrong in shipping, at times I just can't wrap my head around it anymore.

My friends that have been in (and out) of romantic relationships that I've seen firsthand, I try to say the right things and understand, but it's hard, especially trying to understand how a label launches their relationship suddenly on par with friends they've been closer with for longer.

I would love to love. I DO love to love. I love my communities, I love my family, I love my person, I love my friends. I want to understand them. It's just all so different. It's hard to explain.

Romantic love makes people act in ways they otherwise wouldn't. I don't envy that part at least. It sounds scary to love someone deeply not by choice, but by some imaginary romantic string that directs your attraction. (I say this lightheartedly and not completely seriously)

I love my characters and stories that help me feel less abnormal, and I do yearn for more non-allo friends. The romance-centrism in everything I do tears me apart sometimes, but other times it gives me the language to describe how deep I feel my own love for things and people.

I love love and the idea of love, which makes me want to understand romance more and more. I've talked about love for hours and hours, researched endlessly on different kinds of love, and how others experience it. Throughout my life, I've always felt like an anthropologist on the outside of human civilization, and my love research feels no different. I've reflected on my own love, driven those around me crazy maybe even from going in circles over and over. It's complicated. The moment I think I feel okay something will come on my FYP that sends me into confusion and jealousy and upset over everything all over again.

I'm trying to learn to love myself for how I perceive the world and how I perceive love. I don't think I'll ever be able to internalize what everyone around me experiences and sees, and I'm trying to be okay with that.

I love love. i think

It's so well explained, after such dissection. I genuinely am so thankful this was recommended in my feed, and like, I'm sure there are plenty of videos similar to this out there, this video was recommended to me because of the fact I liked Minecraft! (and a bunch of other things, but think about it. Imagine it reaching it out to a lot more people with it, educating the peeps you'd least expect!)

I really appreciate how this was worded, paced and discussed. The breakdown of everything was so impressive. I really wanted to share it here because it deserves to be shared!!!!

I have spent almost all of my time recently dedicated to making an experimental album or LP, really any sort of group of music. I currently have three of the songs done but I have always had trouble finding an audience that isn't just my friend or people I already know. So I bring you two questions...

1. Would you listen to a very strange experimental concept album about the problems we choose to ignore and a very odd parental situation even though listening to it you wouldn't get any of that.
(I am thinking of making physical versions with poems and drawings in each one if it gets enough streams)

2. How do I find an audience? Instagram hasn't helped, Youtube has not helped, and I don't know how to put myself out there like that.

Foreword

This is the first blog in the financial section! What a way to start things off by complaining about the rental market. Well, I suppose this situation is commonplace almost everywhere.

This is the first blog I have finished and posted in a while. There are many private drafts sitting around here. I should finish them sometime.

Living With Housemates

I am lucky to enjoy the idea of living with housemates. With the right people, I would happily spend every day with them. I do not need to be dating someone to want to do that. Sharing a house allows me to split the rent with other people, share chores, and gives everyone some company. There are added struggles, like a higher cost of living, but again, we would have multiple incomes.

Unfortunately, I do not have a choice. Renting is an impossible task where I live, so I have to live with other people either way. God forbid you want to buy a home. The only way to do that is to be stupidly rich. Cheap homes will set you back at least $700 (USD$500) per week.

As much as my preferences make it easier for me, I am still troubled. Just because I want to live with others does not mean I want to live with anybody. I am very selective when it comes to people I want to be around all the time. My worst fear when it comes to moving out is living with people I do not like. Even worse would be if we were friends when we started. There are many horror stories about friends moving in together, only to hate each other by the time the lease is up.

In order to move out, I will have to live with at least two other people. I have one person who has agreed to move out with me. I am optimistic about this prospect. I am not optimistic about having to find another person.

There are so many qualities to look for in a housemate. There are the superficial things, like hobbies, cooking preferences, and what furniture they would want in a shared space. Then, there are the more important aspects. How do they feel about parties, big or small? What about guests staying overnight, or couples? When do they turn off the lights, and when do they expect silence, if ever? I want someone I can get along with as a person, yes, but I need someone I can handle being around 24/7.

As online as I am, I do not cope well with getting to know other people in real life. I have gotten much better at socialising, but it is still very difficult for me to maintain any connections. Most of the people I talk to in real life I do not expect to know long-term. This makes the idea of living with a stranger very daunting.

Ideally, the third person would be someone my friend and I both know. At the very least, I prefer the idea of one of us knowing them. That way, someone can vouch for them. This is an unlikely outcome. My friend does not know many people, either, let alone anyone we would want to live with.

In the end, we will most likely have to live with a stranger. What a shame! I hope this person does not mind moving in with two people who already know each other.

Really, I do not want a stranger in my home. Obviously, it would be their home too. I just want to do things without the awkwardness of a random person. There is a lot more that has to be negotiated when there is another person there. Many of the silly hypothetical plans my friend and I make will be harder to execute when there is an outsider to take into account, if they can happen at all.

Rent is Expensive

As I said earlier, the average home costs at least $700/week. No average person can afford this. To make matters worse, prices are still rising. $700 is the minimum. I am unsure how much flats/apartments cost, but I doubt there will be one that fits my needs. As apartments go, they are smaller. More research will have to be done.

I do not want to live in a townhouse. Here, townhouses are not cute, tall, brick buildings. They are greyscale, cramped boxes with tiny yards and walls too thin. I consider them worse than the suburban nightmares of the 1950s. At least the houses of the 1950s all had driveways! Some complexes do not even have driveways! They are poorly lit, never have hardwood flooring (a personal ick, but still), and are just so dreary. As much as I just complained about size, I would choose a smaller, traditional home in a heartbeat just for the character. Every new housing complex I see angers me.

I have less to talk about here when it comes to affording to rent. I must look into budgeting more. It will be essential. Other than that, I need a separate bathroom. The people I know who share a bathroom hate it. Air conditioning is a must for the sake of my own health. Solar power is desired for the sake of electricity bills. If the property is not a unit, it must be fully fenced and have undercover parking, preferably a lockable garage. Bonus points if it has built-in storage, hardwood floors, and a good dishwasher.

Conclusion

Well, this is all I have to say at the moment. As much as I feel like a YouTuber for asking, I do want to know what property requirements people have. Could you handle sharing a bathroom? Do you want the property to come furnished or unfurnished? Do people have any budgeting tips, or know of any good resources?

Until next time,
Dolly ☆

Everywhere, everything (at least what I see in America), nowadays seems to be focused on how much everyone can consume.

How many clothes can you buy, or thrift, or purge from your overflowing closets? How many books can I read, how many books do I have, how much extra content can I purchase? How much can I eat at the all-you-can-eat-buffet, what did I eat today, how much did I eat, how much did it cost? How much?

Now, I'm not against having personal collections of things that matter to you, whether that's merch from your favorite fandom, a full closet, or a healthy home library, but very little of it seems curated and personal nowadays.

People have hundreds of books on their physical TBR-- that's hundreds of books that they've purchased but haven't read yet-- so many to the point that I consistently see people "unhauling" unread books.

All of the focus seems to be on how much you can buy, like purchasing is the actual hobby here. People have been consistently fed the idea that having more makes us happier (for many reasons that i won't explore here), and guess who that benefits?

That's right! The corporations that are selling you all this shit. They don't care if you like it or use it, as long as you pay them for it and people keep posting videos of their hauls.

There's so much I want to say, but the main point I want to get across is that we have to be more mindful of how much and how we are consuming. Don't contribute to global waste, don't waste your money on things you don't actually need--or even want past the idea of *new shiny thing*--and know that you don't need everything to have a "perfect life".

Put care into the things you surround yourself with, and that includes most importantly the people in your life.

xx, your most humble hypocrite,
veryhungrycaterpillar

This is not a blog post asking for advice. I am simply putting my feelings into writing. Do enjoy reading!!

--------------------⊹₊˚‧︵‿₊୨ᰔ୧₊‿︵‧˚₊⊹--------------------

I was told that "love at first sight" is shallow, selfish attraction.

In a way, I never believed that it existed. How can you tell you like someone after seeing them? You cannot see smiles of ever-flowing kindness from one quick sight of pale skin. You cannot feel waves of care and determination in the ruffles and folds of clothes you are unable to touch. You cannot see true intention in styled hair. Appearances to me are mere glamour. Pretty things. Precious things.

I thought myself to be demisexual with these thoughts in mind. "Why, I could never fall in love with someone I didn't know!" is what I kept close to my heart. I wasn't wrong, but I was foolish to think myself right either.

The first that caught my attention was your difference.

To me, anyone born here belongs here. Yet you still intrigued me, and not with something you can control. Your lighter skin and lidded eyes drew my attention first, and even if that interest grew thin, it stayed. It stayed hidden in the folds of my forgotten thoughts and memories.

Then next came noticing you.

You're so different, yet I struggle to find your face in endless chattering crowds. Maybe it's because my eyes remain glued to the floor. Maybe it's because my gaze wanders to the passing faces near me rather than the hallway. Regardless, you would sometimes show yourself.

You are taller than me, despite my societal seniority, and you wear glasses like me. I don't know the sound of your voice because you speak at such a low volume. I didn't know your name until last Friday, and I had almost forgotten your existence, or at least, not taken such heavy note of it.

It's funny isn't it?

I had gotten my hopes up on Friday. I had hoped I would get the guilty pleasure of looking at you without it being weird. That I could observe a little more of your features between financial transactions. I got a little less and a bit more than what I had bargained for.

I walked around that morning with the thought that you might be selling today, then I caught sight of your black hair and felt this crippling sharp warmth strike my heart and chest. It was so cliché, but it intrigued me. I had never felt that way about someone I had interest in before.

Then came the height of my embarrassment on that day. I had ushered a friend of mine to ask a burning question I've had for a while. I stood off to the side with someone else, waiting, wondering.

And you were looking in our direction.

It was suprising, but it felt far less important compared to that feeling you gave me in the morning. I laughed it off with my friend, but inside, I had wondered if you noticed me. I still do.

I have no reason to approach you. Our circumstances prohibit me severely.

Ulterior motives are such horrible things, aren't they? I told someone that. Their response was inadequate.

I am only writing this now to bid my small hope away. I can't hold onto the smallest of embers.

I was never in love with you.

You intrigued me. I wanted to know what thoughts lay behind the lenses of your glasses. I wanted to know what you sounded like when you were tired in the morning.

I wanted to know you.

What a shallow, selfish feeling.

--------------------⊹₊˚‧︵‿₊୨ᰔ୧₊‿︵‧˚₊⊹--------------------

Thank you for reading!! This came about on a whim as I was reading Princess Jellyfish. It is in fact based on my own feelings.

If you've ever checked all my blog posts, you'll know I tend to write longer, but even this length is fine for me. Have a pleasant day !! o(*^▽^*)┛
