STOP HATING ON NIRVANA!!!

okay so this has been on my mind for a while and i honestly dont get why people act like liking nirvana is some kind of crime now. every time i mention them theres always someone that jumps in with "they're overrated" or "you only know smells like teen spirit" like alright bro can people not enjoy music anymore?

i get it, they're one of the biggest rock bands ever so obviously they're gonna have some annoying fans, but that doesnt suddenly make the music bad. people always bring up how kurt wasnt some insanely crazy technical guitarist god or whatever but that was never the point, your creativity isn't bound by your level of skill, kurt made it in a way so the songs werent supposed to sound perfect, they sounded real/messy instead of everything being polished to death.

and honestly i think a lot of the hate just comes from people hearing the same two songs over and over. if all i ever heard was smells like teen spirit and come are you are on the radio for years i'd probably get tired and kill myself too, but thats not the only thing they made obviously, some honorary shoutouts to songs like scentless apprentice, D-7, love buzz, white lace and strange, sappy and IHMAWTD. they have completely different feels/styles and they deserve way more attention than they get, obviously excluding some of the more mainstream ones i mentioned.

i also think people confuse being popular with being overrated. those arent the same thing. just because millions of people like something doesnt automatically mean its bad. if i told you your favorite artist with millions of listeners was overrated, you'd get mad too! sometimes things get huge because people actually liked and enjoyed them, and people definitely liked nirvana.

im not saying you have to love them, everyone has different taste and thats completely fine. but acting like they're this awful band that ruined music just feels kinda forced. its okay to not like them, but its also okay to admit they had a massive impact on rock music and inspired a lot of artists. i dont think thats something you can really deny, even if they're not your favorite band.
