So you want to learn about Skincare? ໒꒱

Hello hello!

For many years now i have been interested in skincare and selfcare, it was a way for me to feel more confident with my own body after struggling with low self esteem for a long time now. It was a very long way but i definitly feel more confident than my 10 years old self
In hope that someone may need this to feel more confident, i decided to write this guide about my own experience and research on the subject of Skincare

Before diving deeper, there's some things you need to know,
i am NOT a doctor, nor a dermatologist, nor a beautician, this is only a hobby of mine and you have to remember that i'm a stranger on the internet writing this at 2am drinking cold orange juice (it doesn't even taste good MAN) so take this as a reminder to not believe everything you read on the internet, always ask a professional if you're not sure

Now, before building a routine we have to build ourselves a skin-profile, who are you? What does your skin need? What does your skin doesn't need? What is your budget? Etc.

Here's a few questions to ask yourselves:

How old am i?

Yes, this is important, the product you'll need will differ depending on your age. Because the skincare routine of a 9 year old won't be the same as the one of a 18 and the skincare routine of a 18 won't be the same as a 60.
Also let's be clear, the skincare routine of a 9 yo should be water, because the younger the more the skin doesn't have problem especially before puberty. A 9 yo can still try some skincare in the context of a silly haha game, during my teens years me and my little sister would make ourselves pretty by using sheet masks and other, it was a game and nothing too serious. In this context, this is okay and completely acceptable, if i see a sephora kid i'm going to lose it.

Using multiples products at a very young age can have severe consequences on the long-term

What's my skin type?

If you know some basic skincare tips you will be able to answer this question easily, some won't and it's okay.
THIS, step is very important and please don't skip it just because you don't know, using products that don't fit your skin type can lead to breakouts and other problems.
There's multiple ways to discover your skin type, one of them being by asking a professional, but in a world where we don't have the type or the money to ask them we'll use another technique, the paper sheet technique [thunder sfx]

  • In the morning, wash your face (duh)
  • Let it air dry for 30min to 1h
  • Place a paper sheet on your face and see how it react

If, the sheet doesn't stick to your face
You have either dry or normal skin

Elif, the sheet completely stick to your face
You have oily skin

Else, the sheet stick to specific parts of your face
You have combinaison skin

Your skin also may be sensitive, while it's not a skin type per say you still have to pay attention to it
I have dry and sensitive skin, welcome to the train if you have the same type as me

In case you still aren't sure of what skin type you have, you can search for products suitable for multiples skin types. If i catch you using an oily skin product when you're a dry skin you will taste my fists. And breakouts too.

Answer me CDDouble, what does my skin need the most?

idk you tell me

Pay good attention to your skin needs, do you have acne? Do you have blackheads? Do you have dark circles? All of this are completely natural and you don't have to feel ashamed of it, i have blackheads and acne scars but that doesn't mean i can't feel good in my own body, i hope you'll be able to take a good look of yourself in the mirror without feeling disgust one day, no matter what happens it's still you.

Can we build a skincare routine now?

Yes we can, normally a skincare routine consist of...three products,
But it can be changed depending on your needs (hence the part just above).
You will need,

A cleanser,
A moisturizer,
and sunscreen.

That's it, that's the very basic, it can change based on (your needs yes) but also who you are, for example if you're the type of wearing a lot of heavy makeup/products during the whole day then it's good to have two cleanser to use during the evening, to make sure there's not any products left on your pores. In some cases cleansing your skin twice is not even necessary and can even irritate your skin. Everything depends on you.

If you don't want to buy all that because you aren't interested in skincare (why are you here?), then the strict minimum is a moisturizer.

I don't have money

I don't too
That's why we don't buy EXPENSIVE products, there's multiples good products available for multiple type of budget, reminder that because a product is expensive doesn't mean it's good, sometimes you pay more for the brand rather than the formula.
If you want to know if a product is expensive or not, you should compare it with other products or read the reviews.
Hey i found this two products with the same effects but one is more expensive
Buy the cheaper one. Thank you next.

A cheap and easily found skincare product with multiples benefits would be Vaseline, always bet on Vaseline. Girl is cheap and you can use it for so many things. I'm not talking about the pink mini-one, i'm not talking about the labubu-matcha-tungtungsahur one i'm talking about classic jelly petrolum Vaseline.
Girl can moisturise, face, hands, lips, eyelashes, your dry desert skin USE IT.

I should totally make diy products to save money

Is your name Walter White? Twin we are not making meth put that baking soda DOWN.
I really don't recommend diy skincare products, the only thing i can accept would be body scrub with sugar, vaseline and something else (multiples recipes exist) HOWEVER.
It's better to make a single portion and not a full bowl, you won't use it everyday so it can get spoiled with germs and mold and um ew. Not sure exactly how it works but you aren't putting any preservatives on your diy body scrub so it's really not safe to make a huge portion to use "for later"

So there's this thing i want to get rid off my face

Sure, there's multiple things you can get rid off, just as there's many things you can't because they're natural but influencers and social media is making you think that it's not normal

Your skin have pores, your skin have texture, your skin have hair, it's normal and natural.
One of the most popular trends in the beauty community is "glass skin", to have a completely flawless, glowing, smooth skin. I call it bullshit thank you.

It's not possible, it's only possible if you put a filter on your face or wear a lot of converage makeup. It's not naturally possible, it's a marketing trend to make you buy more products and create insecurities. Completely poreless skin is NOT possible, everyone has pores. Koreans people can give the illusion of having no pores because genetically speaking their pores is smaller, but they still have them.

There's a lot more than i could say about skincare but then again i'm not a profesionnal so it's your job to make research about what you want and find something you like. Reminder that you can't spell skincare without care, it's supposed to make you feel good and confident, if you don't like then you have no reason to start.
I like to talk about it because it helped me grow more confident over the years but i don't care if people aren't as interested, do what makes you happy. Now if you'll excuse me i'll grab myself another glass of orange juice.
