With the huge surge of this whole "whimsy" epidemic, comes with what every new and rising trend goes through every year. Becoming marketable. As most fun and interesting things go through, whimsy has been blended, ran through, and watered down to something that is now the new basic. Now everyone wants to be whimsical, everyone wants to be a "weird girl". To be whimsical now, you have to buy this, and wear that, and like these colors and patterns because its just so "whimsical". Whimsy has become nothing more than an aesthetic. A style of fashion that consist of polka dots, plaid, and stripes. An assortment of colors. And commonly associated with the timeless icon that is our queen Fancy Nancy. (Who of which, these whimsical wana-be's could never compare.)
But what people don't understand, is that whimsy cannot be bought, or sold. Its not something you "have" or something you can make with stickers and glitter. Whimsy is not gem stickers on a plastic cup. Whimsy is not sprinkles on your pancakes. As whimsical and fun as a fluffy petticoat tutu may seem, it is just that. A fluffy petticoat tutu.
Whimsy is not something you have in your purse or your pocket or in your bedroom. "whimsy" is something you ARE. Whimsy is a mindset, a lifestyle, how you view the world, how you view YOURSELF. Whimsy is believing you can have fun doing things your not good at. Its being okay with not being digestible for other people, knowing your different and loving and embracing it and never for a second watering yourself down for anyone. Whimsy is almost a form of self love and love for other people and the world and the environment that comes with it. To be unapologetically you, is freeing. To be whimsical, is to be free. Think of Punk culture. Sure punk definitely has its own style, and fashion. But punk is not in the clothes. Punk is in your heart, its who you are. Punk is not only breaking the mold, not being the norm, but its also just the embodiment of acceptance and love. Its music, movement, togetherness, lifestyle and more. There are people out there that like to dress punk and look punk, but they don't ACT punk, they don't agree with the messages that come with punk music, they don't care for any of it. They just like the leather and the spikes and mohawks. Those are just called posers.
The people who say they're whimsical, just because they like the color tiffany blue, because they put sprinkles in their coffee and because they buy and own things that Pinterest says is whimsical, doesn't make them whimsical. it makes them trend hoppers and it makes them POSERS. You can say you live a whimsical life and then judge people for being different or use AI or be politically incorrect. That is literally impossible. That's like saying your Punk but you'd willingly lick Tr*mps ass if he bent down in front of you. very contradicting. And yes, being whimsical IS political because EVERYTHING is political. Point is, whimsy is more than the aesthetic. whimsy is life. you cannot buy that.
