The article was titled, "Selkie’s Latest Fantasy Is a Pirate Circus at the End of the World" which already sound cool as hell, i mean HELLO? The article talks about how the show presented a traveling pirate circus with “warrior girls” living off the grid (complete with retro music devices) in the aftermath of an imagined apocalypse. It sounded literally so cool and interesting i was hooked INSTANTLY. The collection brought maritime folklore, historical fantasy and circus imagery into Selkie’s hyperfeminine world. And a lot of the reoccurring motifs are such interesting combinations, consisting of pirates, harlequin, armor, corsetry, romantic dresses, theatrical silhouettes, Chainmail, religious jewelry, seashells and oversized accessories.
And the designer's message behind it all is so powerful and beautiful. She spoke about when you’re on social media, you get a lot of things, like being called a clown, that it’s all a circus, like ‘what a clown show.’ And she thought, "why not put on the ultimate clown show then and embrace the fool?” Which i thought was such an interesting take, such a genius thing to be inspired from like come ON! And she wanted the show to have an “apocalyptic feeling” because of the spirit of the times right now. In the article she was quoted explaining, “There’s a lot of discussion about the world ending and a lot of people live in terror of this and I don’t live in terror of that,” and she also said (my favorite line in the whole article) “Even in an apocalypse, even at the end of the world, creativity and love survive and they are the foundations of all things that are important.” If that isn't one of the most beautiful things ever... I don't know maybe its just me but that single quote is honestly so inspirational and it really reminds you of the human nature that is to create and to love. Its so human and its so beautiful, and i think you guys should really check out the collection cause its SO badass.
