how hungry are you?

Everywhere, everything (at least what I see in America), nowadays seems to be focused on how much everyone can consume.

How many clothes can you buy, or thrift, or purge from your overflowing closets? How many books can I read, how many books do I have, how much extra content can I purchase? How much can I eat at the all-you-can-eat-buffet, what did I eat today, how much did I eat, how much did it cost? How much?

Now, I'm not against having personal collections of things that matter to you, whether that's merch from your favorite fandom, a full closet, or a healthy home library, but very little of it seems curated and personal nowadays.

People have hundreds of books on their physical TBR-- that's hundreds of books that they've purchased but haven't read yet-- so many to the point that I consistently see people "unhauling" unread books.

All of the focus seems to be on how much you can buy, like purchasing is the actual hobby here. People have been consistently fed the idea that having more makes us happier (for many reasons that i won't explore here), and guess who that benefits?

That's right! The corporations that are selling you all this shit. They don't care if you like it or use it, as long as you pay them for it and people keep posting videos of their hauls.

There's so much I want to say, but the main point I want to get across is that we have to be more mindful of how much and how we are consuming. Don't contribute to global waste, don't waste your money on things you don't actually need--or even want past the idea of *new shiny thing*--and know that you don't need everything to have a "perfect life".

Put care into the things you surround yourself with, and that includes most importantly the people in your life.

xx, your most humble hypocrite,
