How weird is it that I have such a niche music taste compared to the people I grew up in?
I used to think, man, I may be the only dude in my city or even in my region that listens to the stuff I like, such as bossa nova, mpb, samba-canção, etc. I have no ties to Brazil in any aspect at all, I mean, you would think most of my family is from there.
But no, I am an American with Mexican heritage who feels as such. I love all music (yes, even country too [Johnny Cash lfggg]), but these Brazilian songs and artists like Gal Costa, Elis Regina, Rita Lee, Nara Leão, etc. were all there for me in my good and bad times. Majority of some of the artists I like are mostly dead, with their streams not as popular as they should be. (maybe that's good to keep them like a hidden treasure lol)
That's why I tune in to them, to keep their memories and grit alive and well into the next generation. These were talented people, people who had the expertise to be big names over there in Brazil; I would want to be that one speck in the South that loves them too.
