How capitalism LOWKEY ruined my image of college

LOL literally what the title says. When we are part of a capitalistic society that is also part of a capitalistic world, there are capitalistic needs that require people to fullfill them. Since I was younger (and I still find myself talking from that naive point of view), college was something I saw as sacred. A place where people learned and shared knowledge between them and with others. It was almost magical, how so much knowledge could be stored in one single place made by the people who partaked in its functioning. Then I grew up. The cost of college, the need of housing depending on your situation, the classism etched in almost every single aspect that makes you understand that this wasn´t made for "dirty proletarians" like you. All of that, of course, without taking into account what college is "meant" for. Study a good career, find a good job. You are not a child, you must study what will give you the most money. You don´t study for passion or for a desire to adquire knowledge, you study to get money. And even if you study for love, you´ll know you probably won´t have a job in that field.Everyone will always remind you how much of a waste not only your career is, but the aftermath of it. You did all of this when you could have done more.

Those things are the ones that make me feel wary about college. I still have a year left in highschool and I´ve already heard all the stuff I´ve said because I want to study English and Spanish among other subjects. Imagine if I wrote this as an art student, it would be ten times worse. This is more of a vent post than a college guide. In a world full of capitalistic tools (like AI) that are made specifically for you to be displaced into possitions of precariousness, I ask you that, if you have the chance, study whatever you want. Learn all you can about the subjects that fill you with purpose. Life is way too short to spend it working and working for something you hate or don´t even care about. Live through the knowledge you acquire and pass it onto others. This probably sounds really cringy, but I believe there is nothing more beautiful than learning, finding how things work. It will make the world around you a place you not only love and cherish, but also undertand, with its flaws and its beauty, with the good and the bad.
