I don't know how helpful this could be, but it could be a start?
There's this youtuber i watch that customize dolls and she tried to make one of her own, i think it's a good start to have a notion? She does a lot of cool mods that imitate ball jointed dolls too.

Her name is Dollightful on youtube and this is the video:

Tho if the link doesn't work the title is: Repaint! Easter Bunny BJD (My first ball jointed doll from scratch!!) Custom OOAK Doll
Well, do you want to make them from scratch or you'll be using 3d printed base?
I've seen some people who make tutorials on making these dolls from scratch on Instagram and YouTube.
From what I've seen they use paper cutouts to better match the proportions
From scratch, yeah. And that sounds like a good idea i'll try that!
I think the best place to start is simply testing. Try making one joint, or hell, try making a mermaid first so you don't have to worry about making feet or legs. The tail would let you practice that sort of joint a lot.

It would also be a good thing to remind yourself done is better than anything, even if not done perfectly.
yes ur so right! and yeah that is what i ended up doing and i have made my first doll with 1 arm and 1 leg and no head XP its lookin a lil rough but i like it, and I have a much better sense of what to do next! thank u!
