Part 7
Title: Souls Torn and Mended
An avatar the last airbender story^^
TW: Violence, Familial Abuse
---
I don't have to deal with this.
The thought came to me suddenly, and I liked its weight on my mind.
Grabbing my messenger bag and bounding out the door I headed to the market. I didn't have to deal with this. I could enter and exit this house as I pleased being an adult now, and I no longer had to stay and be burdened by any of it.
I broke into a run. Weightlessness took over my body as I rushed across the hills and between homes to reach the stalls carrying goods from all over the world. My village wasn't anything spectacular, but had always been a center for travelers passing through.
Perhaps that's why Takahiro is here?
The event for the avatar's birthday must have been what drew him here. In a way my birthday brought him here. I couldn't help the smile that took over my face, and moved from stall to stall chatting excitedly with the sellers and grabbing what I thought I would need for my travels.
Returning home I snuck into my room, packing and hiding my bag, just in case I needed it early. Exiting, I saw that my mother hadn't even begun dinner, and whisked her out of her room into the kitchen with me. Patting her back and giving her a faint smile I helped her with the preparations. Would this be the last meal I shared with her? I didn't have the time to contemplate such a thing as we hurried to be ready before my father got home.
My father entered the doors as sunset reached us. Beautiful orange rays shone through the windows, disrupted by the door opening and the soot on his boots entering the air.
A straight face, and a twitch in his eye told us to greet him with nothing but smiles.
Sitting down he unbuttoned his work shirt, rolled back his sleeves covered in the same material as his boots, and began eating without a word.
