A million years ago a girl found me
She had kindling on her breath and flint in her eyes and a dry leaf heart
I asked her if she had a wish for me,
She said that she wished that all of her people grew with fire in their lungs and sparks between their teeth
She told me that there are some things that only people who are burning can see

And I see them, now, all the young folk
They are candles and hearths and house fires and they are all dancing to music no one else can hear
