I have been thinking on the question, 'Can the art be separated from the artist?'. I'm in the middle of whether the art can be seen without the artist.

Does anyone else have an opinion on this? I believe it could be argued both ways, but I would love to hear another view on this topic.

well for me, its only valid when the artist is de4d, so they wont make a profit out of it.
I think art and artists go by hand, but they're not reflections of each other. You can't base one person on his works, or his works exclusively on the person. There is also the time, and what the art work is actually about. I think they do i fluenciate, but do not say what the art work might be about in a strict sense. I think it can indeed be separated, but it might not be the same.
Basically, I think art is like "yeah, take a guess" because you'll never be sure what something truly is or was meant to be, thanks to human's nature to process things different, thou having a different meaning for things! Λ™ΛšΚš(Β΄β—‘`)ΙžΛšΛ™
I can see catboy Kagehira Mika, but maybe you'll just see a catboy because you don't know Mika, and aomeone else will see someone doing cosplay instead of a catboy, and I think all are valid (Β΄-Ο‰-`)

Basically, I think you can, but you'll get different points of view. Even so, I do think the context like the time or artist are important, at least for me, because you can connect more to what the artist might have wanted to say, which is nice β˜πŸ€“
hi! i belive art can be seperated from the artist under the condition that they are dead or won't profit in anyway (profit includes fan media). but most of the time, if the artist is a bad person the question is why would you be choosing to be interacting with their media anyway
the answer is quite simple though? if a game is fun but the person who made it is a bad person, just pirate the game. art should not become inaccessible to people who enjoy it solely because the artist behind it is a bad person
For me it depends so bad, you can listen to a problematic artist's music and say that you dont support them but the thing is that sometimes their work does include their actions, for example Picasso who while being one of the most influent and popular artists in the world is an absolute criminal for repeatedly assaulting and hitting women and he PAINTED his actions, so it is very hard to look at his creations and think that this have no correlation with what he did
yeah. unless it represents an ideal the artist believes in
The way I see it, art can never truly be separated from the artist. Art will always come from the soul in some way. An artist always leaves some shred of themselves in their art, whether it be something grand like their meaning of life, or something small like their phobias. The only example I can think of that doesn't connect the art to the artist is an artist being tied into a horrible contract they didn't realise was horrible until they got sucked into it. Even then, if they're slaving away for some company with no freedom, there's no soul in that. Would it really be art?

When it comes to the whole supporting terrible people thing, I think you can only go so far to detach yourself from the artist. Creative media can be in the public domain and the terrible people no longer profit from it at all, but it's still a piece of the artist. You have to decide what about the media you actually want to support. Do you like the core themes of the story, or something more surface level like the setting or character designs? Even then, those surface level things carry undertones of the artist's beliefs.

I'm yapping, but the gist is that I don't think it can ever be separated. However, if you restrict yourself to only engaging in "pure" media, you're setting yourself up to live in an echo chamber. Yeah, you don't have to condone some art or artists, but I think there's a difference between an artist who said some midguided shit and an artist who is actively malicious.
this is the healthies way to approach this question, I agree wholeheartedly. if we could give props to comments, I would.
@Reinbew thank you!! This is such a lovely response ( β β—œβ β€Ώβ β—β  )♑

Not really because an artwork I think is a piece of its artist. They put their soul, mindset or mind into creating it with their creativity so every artwork that you look at is a small piece of the said artist and that just can't be ignored, because that's what makes the drawing. A soul. It's like a small mirror shard of the artist, but you can still like an artwork because it might be a shard that you like in particular, but it's still connected to the creator.
Strongly dissagte art is only piece when it's stripped aeay from story and meaning behind it
i think it really depends. if doing so means supporting the artist financially, then no. but if it means just liking something from them and not actually supporting them by buying or streaming anything, then i think so (<- theres another caveat too, if the art directly contributes to whatever bad stuff theyve done, then that means no, full stop) im not very good at words so this might be a bit convoluted, sorry ~.~;
