Wander in The Lounge

Hello, I wander. I make sewing projects and write stories on commission for a living. Much of my long-term friend group on discord has drifted away, and one of those close friends recommended Kwenk to me. I find this small community's vibe really charming, so I decided to join and see where it goes.

At any rate, on to opening a discussion. Does anyone enjoy dark fantasy or horror fantasy novels? I've been trying to find some stories with a certain manner of spooky whimsy that seems to be hard and harder to find every day. If there are any readers with recommendations, or even someone that just wants to gush about their favorite series, I'd love to hear about it!

I prefer thrillers or sci-fi horror, fantasy is not for me so I don't have much to recommend
welcome! that sewing sounds so cool, I like to sew too! now in terms of dark fantasy I don't think I know of anything specific, i tend to read horror or fantasy as separate genres, but for horror alone I'd rec Stagtown, by Punko, it's a webcomic, and now i think about it, another one of their webcomics is also a fantasy, cinderella boy! They're both amazing series and i love them both to death. Stagtown is a horror focusing on Frankie, who's recently moved back to her hometown and now some very strange occurences are going on. Frankie is really refreshing as a horror protagonist as she's really quite clever and rational and cautious - she does all the right things, trying to leave town, being really cautious abt investigating, and the horror happens anyway, which for me makes it all the more chilling. And as for the other webcomic, cinderella boy, it's a really fun fantasy about a guy, Chase, who befriends a tiny magic key/person and with that is able to enter storybooks and play them out, only chase is not a 10 year old going on magical adventures, he's 18 and really needs to be able to use this to make a wish. It's an excellent comedy and really fun, and the outfits are gorgeous. The plot also builds and becomes something very compelling, and every now and then Punko brings in a little horror as well to make for some very tense season finales and its all around a delightful time!
wow did i yap ToT but i hope u find these recs helpful and I'll be back here if i think of any more <3
I'll have to try and take a look at both of those! I'm currently looking into the Winternight trilogy by Katherine Arden. I'm aware that my tastes are somewhat niche, so I'm always on the lookout for things I might be interested in. Thank you for yapping about what you like!
it's not quite "fantasy", but I'd recommend Lockwood & CO.! It's a 5-book series about teenage ghost hunters in London. It has interesting and unique characters, and a female MC who DOESNT end up with any of the male side characters!!! its peak and also quite whimsical imo
Very good! I'll add it to "The List", right after I finish my current books ^_^
Thank you!
