I always loved writing and imagining stories. I stopped due to personal struggles and now I would love to get back into it. However I'm strucked with writer's block...

What's your go-to way to find ideas and inspiration ? It can be for anything, writing, drawing, making music...

I have the same problem sometimes, but what I sometimes do is I'll take multiple strokes from books or music or movies and I'll form my own story out of it if that makes sense? Hope this helps <3
it makes sense ! thank you ill try it!
Same here!! I have a handful of stories, but life makes me too tired to work on them. I hope you overcome your writer's block soon!

That said, I try to pull from little things around me. My main story is based in a realism, so I ask myself what daily things I have done, others have done, or I would like to do. There's no harm in sitting outside and watching the scenery. Social media in particular is the enemy of my creativity.

Unless you're going for something really off-beat and artsy, your story will need a conflict. It doesn't have to be anything grand, though! Why not start by imagining a struggle you have faced before? How else could it have gone? Even something as simple as visiting a laundromat. Let the plot snowball, even if it seems kind of outlandish and cringe. You have to grow the plant to prune it.

Do you prefer to start with a plot or characters? I prefer to start with characters. Either way, the idea above is the same.
omg this is so useful thank you!!
i write like once in a blue moon but i find that reading other stories rlly help, i got inspiration to write from visual novels, comics, etc (its mostly the language/writing used that pushes me into the zone lol i leech off other ppl's writing abilities ༎ຶ‿༎ຶ
i think its okay to leech on people's abilities, its a first step to learn your own style!
Try to remind yourself of stories you used to love and follow, ask yourself questions like "What exactly about this did I like?" or "If I were to continue or expand on a certain part of the story, what that would look like?"

Also if by any chance you feel "full" from the content you consume - that means you need to create something too, no matter what it is. At this point, put on a timer for 15-20 minutes and just let yourself write/type whatever, even if it's "I don't know what to do" or something along these lines. The main part is to make yourself start writing, without any expectations.

Keep in mind that you aren't a machine, you're a human being and you need breaks sometimes, it's okay. There's no point in forcing yourself to do things you don't want to, but... from what I'm seeing in your post, you *do* want to write. So even if it's slowly or clumsily - write. It's good as long as it's yours. Besides, writing is also a skill, so unless you do the actions and go through the motions - there won't be any progress. So at least try, even if it's two lines for now. You got this!
I wish I could give props to comments. This is excellent advice!! I'm keeping this in mind for my own use.
thank you, this is amazing advice!! i'll try it!
It's listening to music for me. I have pretty rich imagination and what I do with it is everytime like on way to something I put on a song and just turn half my brain off. Depending on the music I start thinking of scenarios and I replay it over and over and over with small changes each time until I think of something I like and them work from there.

It sounds stupid I know but it's for some reason the way I come up with things
i used to find ideas like this when i wrote before so i might try it again, i dont think its stupid!
I like to daydream a lot about the plots I'm writing ! That way, every time you come up with a key story element, you can write it down in simple terms or even record yourself talking about it !! The most important thing is to keep your thoughts somewhere you can find them, so that you can return to them when you feel a surge of creative energy :3
Thank you! ill try this!
I think when it comes to making music, I usually just listen to music, whether it'd be snippets on instagram reels, or on youtube. Every now and then, an idea would pop into my head, and if I really like that idea, I create the melody in a daw (mainly bandlab).
that's so cool, if i made music i would definitely try this!
STOP IM IN THE SAME BOOAATTT (╥﹏╥)!!!!! I RECENTLY MADE OC'S FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER A FEW DAYS AGO,,, and i do eventually wanna write stuff about them and make a small storyyy but im confused on how to start :'))) i think im gonna start small like just draw scenarios of them together so i get a feel of how their dynamic worksss. i hope you manage to find some inspiration, i dont have any clue either im sorry ૮ ྀིᴗ͈ . ᴗ͈ ྀིა,,
its okay!! finding inspiration is hard sometimes...
OMG, I get this all the time. There are websites that you can use to generate short story prompts. It helps you get into the mindset. You can build more off the short story, or you can start your writing process. It helps get your mind in gear.
oh thank you!! ill try to find some!
i tend to daydream up stories a lot - if I'm feeling stuck then I will sorta borrow from books or media im reading - like i'll get to a point, stop and then think about how things could happen next - sorta continue the story in my head. It's fun to then see what actually ended up happening and its a good way to like get back into the swing of things! and for properly writing i genuinely just start writing like just sit down and put whatever words come to mind on the page. eventually something comes out of it. I like to do descriptive writing in this so there's no pressure to make a plot or anything!
thats a good idea ill try it!
