for my fellow OC makers: do you guys prefer making fandom OC's, or creating your own worlds/universes for them?

personally I like a mix of both! I have a few of my own shows/worlds I've made, but on the other hand I literally cant enjoy a piece of media without creating an OC. thoughts?

It's so rare when i make fandom oc's, when i do it's usually for yumeshipping
I rather create unique universes for them with my own rules and lore
for me i loooooove making lore and stuff so its ezer if i just make a world for it, but most the time i lowkey just make a bunch of character designs and do nothing with them ><
alsoo cool pf bro!!!
I barely make oc's for anything but my own world nowadays.. I think a big part of that is because I don't watch as many shows anymore, but also because the ones I DO watch are very dry. I like dry books, and fairly historical shows and documentaries?

Neither of which are exactly good soil to till for an oc, yk? I watched TADC pilot, but never got into it tbh. If I did, I might've made an oc for it tho. Who knows? I could get bullies into it like how my furry friends got me to draw my own fursona after begging for awhile, lol!
Same I do both, but I have that one oc that I can't help but insert into every piece of media I find.
They must hate me so much for the amount of crazy stuff I've put them through (T▽T)
i also like doing both!! it’s obviously rewarding to create your own original worlds and ideas and have it be completely your own. but often when i’m watching a show, i’ll get constant ideas of “yeah, but what happened in this missing scene?” or exploring a town that only was visited in an episode and i end up making at least one oc surrounding the gaps i try to fill in canon
I'm also in the same boat of not being able to really enjoy a piece of media without creating an OC!! They're just so fun to explore alternatives to the world. I do have a few standalone OCs in original worlds, but I don't consistently return to them unlike my fandom fixations, which tend to get more consistent attention. Part of which I think is because I can connect with other people through fandom OCs more than completely original universes.
I go through this situation of: fandom oc -> gave them their own world anyways -> oooh what if au -> rinse and repeat
I personally LOVE to make my own universes and worlds. I'm a huge worldbuilder.. I see it all in my head, even if I'm not the best at drawing if out. There's only been a few pieces of media where I make an OC, so most of my characters come from the top of my dome ( ◜‿◝ )♡
