Since Ori's complaining about driving, I would also like to start complaining about cars. What's your stance on modern car design? I have strong opinions on modern car culture and a particular unnamed retro model of volvo that I'm considering divulging in a blog post.

I recently started driving a few months ago and got my license and I still like I struggle with certain aspects of modern car designs like parking. Parking with older smaller cars with low blind spots are wayyyy easier than attempting to park your clunky pile of plastic that costs an arm and a leg. BRING BACK THE SMALL CARS!!! :D
To my limited knowledge, part of the reason that trucks and SUVs are so popular in North America is because in a lot of areas cars/trucks that hit a certain weight/size limit don't need to follow certain environmental regulations. This is really cheap for car companies, hence a giant, multiyear marketing campaign convincing North Americans that everyone and their kid needs a truck/SUV that guzzles gas and flattens any small commuter car in an accident.
🙄
I agree with the other things you said, though. I don't have personal experience with parking, but it definitely seems easier for people with smaller cars. Also, finding most cars when they're sandwiched between two monster trucks is a nightmare!
In terms of design, I am very biased towards mid-century cars. 1950s and '60s space age cars are my favourites. Based purely on looks, I want a purple 1956 Ford Fairlane. They had so much style back then and very pretty colours! I wish I could get one made out of better materials and with a CD player.
Speaking of which, bring back CD players! Touch screens are annoying and, in my opinion, more dangerous. A CD player or radio only has a few buttons and dials. You can memorise where they are by touch. A touch screen requires your focus for typing, apps, and everything else. If you can't use your phone while driving, why should you have an iPad?
I live somewhere really rural, and for some bizarre reason almost EVERY truck has their LED headlights adjusted to point straight into the rearview of every normal sized car on the road.
Touch screens in cars also really annoy me T-T
I ALSO HATE CYBERTRUCKS AND STUFF. It’s so ugly???
Like old cars at least looked aesthetic and had personality/color. What is this minimalist bs 😭
Idk much abt car culture but I always admire old cars I see at car shows. I’ve also heard online that modern cars are over complicating everything and adding unnecessary features no one asked for.
The industry itself there is a lack of creative designs; they have been reusing the same model year after year and hoping no one will see. A part of that, at least in the US, is that car manufacturing is contorted by three major companies. Big cars make them more money; big cars end up in the junkyard faster than small compact cars.
This isn't a new thing in the US; big cars have always been an American staple. In the post-war years they were a symbol of prosperity, so cars just got bigger and bigger. Until the 70s, when the gas crisis and the end of that post-war boom occurred. Cars got smaller after the 70s due to the consumer want for a smaller car.
Car design is often a loop, and with everything going on, it wouldn't surprise me if smaller cars enter the spotlight again.
I want a hot dog shaped van. a banana shaped car. give me a flower shaped bus. a pen shaped truck that looks sort of phallic but you're not sure why.
the only reason we don't have a funny shaped airplane is because science stopped trying
