Yeah, very much so dead that you might as well start a diary there lol.. I feel like that's because the blogs don't look as fun as posts and you can't really add images I think? So compared to posts the blogs aren't as attractive to the audience. I think being able to decorate them and the blogs title display like little magazine entries would be cool and probably would get blogs more attention :)
Personally, if I'm writing a long text post, it's usually to explain something (ex, if it's something I made, then how I made it). In those cases, I usually want an accompanying photo so I'm not just speaking into the void. Other than that, I don't really have the mental energy to write a whole story, real or otherwise, that I feel like a "blog" requires, so I don't bother. That being said, if anything insane happens to me, or I suddenly become so unemployed that I actually have free time again, I'll change that.
Maybe it's because I'm a writer, but I don't think they're quite dead, but they definitely get less traction than posts. I think it could simply be a problem of less exposure though... If someone were to go through and read them and then highlight some like I see sometimes with smaller games and music I think it could help fix that, but I definitely see what you're talking about. Personally I think I would post more stuff on there if I saw more engagement, and would engage more if I saw people doing the same, but it's probably a chicken and the egg problem then. I think if we want to see more blogs, we all need to go make more and engage more. (so much for a simple reply lmao)
Although I don't upload much here, my posts in groups and whatnot tend to get more interactions. However, I'm not really a fan of sticking to the posts function. Blogs don't have a 2000 character limit and support text styling. They're also easier to sort into the categories provided by Kwenk, rather than getting lost in groups.
That said, the blogs do feel a little underwhelming. I wish we could add images to them. Better yet, inline images would be super cool, so they wouldn't be tacked onto the bottom of the post. Even having multiple images on blogs would encourage users to actually blog more.
I really like the idea Kwenk is going for, but currently, it's easier to be social on the posts.
Either way, blog to your heart's content! The only way to popularise the blogs is to post there yourself.
